These are archives of the old [email protected] mailing list. I found them at
a gopher site: http://www-ece.rutgers.edu/gopher/ftp/pub/HOTROD/ . They were
in Unix .Z compressed format, and all were corrupted, probably from ASCII
mode ftp or gopher transfers. I ran them through fixgz and uncompress to
restore them back to ASCII, then compressed them again in zip format, which is
a little more portable.
The old hotrod list was fully moderated; each message was approved and/or
edited by jgd before forwarding to the list. It had the highest signal to
noise ratio of any list I've ever been on. jgd took the list at dixie.com
down when he moved from Atlanta to a hick town in Tennessee with no internet
service; fep took the list over as [email protected], where it never quite
seemed to recover from the transplant; nobody seems to have figured out quite
why.
If you download the archives and read through them, you'll likely find lots of
neat stuff you didn't already know. Bear in mind this was 1992-1995; some of
the stuff that's common knowledge nowadays came from here. My saved messages
irom back then became the core of my 'Database From Hell" which lets me look
like I know a lot more than I really do. [grin]
