Chain & Sprockets IV

by Peter S. Ruff

Re: Jeff Paskey's chain questions, I would say to definately go with an O-ring chain. The O rings keep the lube in around the pins and rollers. I tried a heavy-duty non-o-ring chain on my CBX. With new OEM sprockets I burned up the chain on a trip from the San Francisco to Phoenix and return.

The OEM endless chain is probably the very best way to go, but expensive. The preimum RK (I think it is the LFO) NOT the SO is probably the way to go (DID makes an equivalent), but with the RK you can get a rivit master link. Next best thing to an endless chain. The standard RK, the SO, while guaranteed for 20,000 miles, seldom lasts longer than 10,000 -- in my experience.
