It isn't really a Frequently Asked Question, so I'll call it an
"FYI", For Your Information. The dimensions are compiled from the
factory handouts.
If you have any figures you'd like to contribute, please send them to
me and I'll add them to the list.
note what it is
size nominal tread width, usually in millimeters
AR aspect ratio - sidewall height divided by width
rim dia wheel rim diameter at seat - usually in inches
sect. section width - widest dimension of tire, usually sidewalls
ckrim check tim - rim width where other dimensions are obtained.
changing with rim width will change the section width
tread tread width in inches
rimwidths range of useable rim widths in inches
speed US DOT Maximum Sustained Speed Rating
none - 80 mph
Q - 99 mph
R - 106 mph [note: sources disagree on these
S - 112 mph listings. I'll verify when I get
T - 118 mph a new copy of the DOT regs]
U - 124 mph
H - 130 mph
V - 149 mph
Z - 149+ mph

1) There are two TRX rim sizes - 365mm and 390mm (14.37 and
15.35) The larger ones were used mainly on the Ford
Mustang, the smaller on the Escort. TRX appears to be dead.
