Here's another 1939 dyno setup.  The text describes a Tesla turbine as the 
hydraulic power absorber.  Note the homemade look to the whole rig.  It would 
take a large lathe to make the discs for the Tesla turbine, but I wonder if 
that would be a good way to recycle some of those old 14" Winchester 30MB hard 
disc packs...
